Celebrating over 25 years in Clintonville
Shortly afterwards he was hired to set up Columbus' first microbrewery, the Columbus Brewing (CBC). He traveled to England to purchase the brewing equipment and oversaw its installation on site. Scott was CBC's brewmaster for 2 years before leaving to set up Barley's Alehouse #1 in downtown Columbus. Throughout the next 3 years, Scott busily set up five more Central Ohio breweries including Barley's second microbrewery-Barley's Smokehouse- New Albany Country Club, Medallion Country Club, Atwood Lodge (New Philadelphia) and Hide Away Hills (in Hocking County). His Alexander's Russian Imperial Stout was a three-time award-winner at the Real Ale Festival in 1997 and 2000 and was named after his firstborn. If you visit Barley's Brew Pub, make sure you try a pint. For further information on Barley's, contact Brewdood@barleysbrewing.com or visit their website: www.barleysbrewing.com/enews/. Scott's wife Nina has managed the day-to-day operations of the shop since 1988. She has given workshops to the Central Ohio Herb Society, of which she's been a member since 1984. Her talks have included vinegar-making, brewing herbal beers, and winemaking. She has also spoken to the Organic Gardeners of Central Ohio about winemaking with homegrown grapes, peaches, cherries, apples and other backyard fruit and vegetables-to fully appreciate this art, you should try Nina's tomato-hot pepper wine! Nina, with her botany degree from Bowling Green University, grows hops at home and installed the garden at the second Barley's, Barley's Smokehouse, incorporating a hop wall. Nina and Scott have judged the winemaking competition at the Ohio State Fair for many years and recently helped in creating the Homebrew Competition at the Ohio State Fair each August. The Winemaker's Shop and Barley's together coordinate an Annual Homebrew Festival and competition which takes place in early June. Our hours:
